Wayground is the platform formerly called Quizizz. This independent guide covers joining on a Chromebook, computer, phone, or tablet, including what to do when your screen asks for an account or shows an expired assignment.
Have your teacher’s current invitation ready. You do not enter your game code on this website; the official joining page is linked above.
What do you need to join a Wayground game?
You need access to the activity your teacher assigned, an internet connection, and a compatible device. That access may come as a session code, direct link, QR code, or assignment inside a school learning platform. Have your school account details available in case the activity asks you to sign in.
Which invitation should you use?
| What your teacher shared | What to do | What it opens |
|---|---|---|
| Game or session code | Enter it on the official join page | A particular live activity or assignment |
| Direct activity link | Open the teacher’s link | The activity’s entry screen |
| QR code | Scan it and open the destination | The linked activity |
| Google Classroom, Canvas, or Schoology assignment | Open the assignment in your school account | The teacher’s instructions, link, or code |
| Class-enrollment code | Sign in and use Classes → Join a Class | Membership in a teacher’s class |
Joining a class and joining today’s game are different tasks. If the invitation says “Join a Class,” follow that route rather than repeatedly entering it into the game screen.
Our Wayground code guide explains the two code types and where to use each one.
How do you join a Wayground game step by step?
Start with the invitation supplied by your teacher. Enter the session code or open the shared activity link, complete any requested sign-in, and choose an appropriate display name. Then check the available options and continue. In a live lesson, follow your teacher’s instructions about when to begin answering.
Join with a session code
- Open the official join page. Use the link at the start of this guide.
- Enter the complete code. Copy it from the teacher’s current screen or assignment.
- Follow the account prompt. Use the school-approved account if sign-in is required.
- Check your name. Use the name your teacher requested so your response is recognizable.
- Review available preferences. Adjust options such as sound or read-aloud if shown and appropriate for the lesson.
- Continue into the activity. The documented flow uses Start, with an additional Start game step for homework.
Join through a link or QR code
- Open the link your teacher shared, or scan the displayed QR code with your device’s camera.
- Open the destination and check that it matches the expected activity.
- Complete the entry prompts and follow the teacher’s start instructions.
If a QR code is hard to scan, ask for the direct link or typed session code.
Join through your school learning platform
- Open the correct course in Google Classroom, Canvas, or Schoology.
- Find the assignment your teacher named.
- Follow its link or copy the supplied code.
- Continue using the account requested by your school.
How does joining work on phones, school devices, and homework?
The invitation determines which activity you enter; your device determines how you open it. Students can use a browser on a computer, tablet, or phone, and mobile apps are available. For homework, check the teacher’s assignment instructions and availability instead of expecting the whole class to begin together.
Use a browser or the student app
Wayground’s device guidance lists browser-based participation and student apps for iOS and Android. Installing an app is not necessary just to use the browser route. On a school Chromebook, start with the teacher’s link in the browser. On a shared family device, check the signed-in school account before opening an assignment; a parent’s or sibling’s account can create confusion.
Open homework while it is available
An assigned activity does not automatically become invalid overnight. Wayground says session codes expire when the session ends, so ask whether the assignment remains available rather than judging the code by the date you received it.
Its join-code documentation also explains that work assigned through Classes can be accessed through a supplied link without separately sharing a session code. For assignment setup and scheduling, see Wayground homework mode. Teachers preparing the activity can follow our hosting guide.
Why can’t you join, and which fixes should you try?
First identify where the process stopped: opening the page, entering a code, signing in, or starting the activity. Each needs a different check. Confirm the invitation and account with your teacher before changing device settings, creating another account, or assuming that every failed attempt means the code has expired.
The screen asks you to sign in
Wayground’s privacy policy says students can join games without creating accounts, while its student joining instructions begin with an active account. Some features require accounts, so “no account needed” is not a promise for every joining route.Follow your teacher’s account instructions. Our Wayground login guide covers sign-in separately.
The invitation is for a class
The class-enrollment instructions require an active student account. Open Classes → Join a Class, enter the invitation code, and complete any parent or guardian email prompt before joining. The code is rejected or the assignment has ended
Compare the full code with the teacher’s invitation and confirm that you opened the correct activity. Do not shorten it to match a code length mentioned in an old guide.
A teacher may be able to reopen an expired assignment for eligible students using the original link or code. Students cannot reopen it themselves. For further checks, use Wayground code not working. If the page itself will not load on a school device, ask the teacher or IT team to check access.
What else should students know about joining Wayground?
Keep three distinctions in mind: a session is different from class enrollment, guest participation is different from account-based access, and live play is different from assigned homework. The answers below address common joining questions without assuming that every teacher uses the same account rules, invitation method, or session settings.
Can I join Wayground without creating an account?
Yes, Wayground says students can join games without creating accounts. However, account-based features and class enrollment have different requirements. Follow the prompt for your teacher’s activity, and ask which school account to use if sign-in appears.
Can I join a game without a code?
Yes, if your teacher provides another entry method, such as a direct activity link or QR code. Open that invitation and complete the prompts. You still need access to the intended session; a random public code is not a substitute.
Can I join Wayground on an iPhone or Chromebook?
Yes. Students can participate through a browser on a Chromebook or phone, and an iOS student app is available. Start with the teacher’s invitation, keep your connection active, and use the school account requested for that assignment.
Does yesterday’s join code still work?
It can, if the assignment remains available. Session codes expire when the session ends, not simply because the calendar date changes. Check the teacher’s deadline and instructions before assuming you need a replacement code for homework.
What should I do if I joined the wrong activity?
Stop before submitting answers and check the assignment title with your teacher. Reopen the intended invitation rather than guessing another code. If you already submitted responses, tell the teacher which activity and display name you used.
Ready to join? Open your teacher’s current invitation, check the activity and account, and follow the start instructions. If access fails, note the exact message so your teacher can identify the next step.
